Embracing Love

Clare hated her stepfather. If there was a human being on earth she never wanted to see every time she woke up, then that man was her stepfather. The fact that he was always there made things worse with each passing day. The good thing was that he was about to move out. Four more months and he would not be her problem anymore.

The more she looked at his smug face, the more she hated him. His actions were pathetic. He was too loud, even when sleeping. The man’s snore could wake the whole neighborhood. The only good thing about him was that he loved her mother more than he probably even loved himself. He was also a provider, and a good one at that.

She had not seen him for the last three months. Months which she had hoped her mother would have forgotten him. But no, the woman was ever faithful. Clare was pretty sure that if she ever had such a husband, she would cheat on him on their wedding night.

A professional photographer who got paid top dollar for his work, Jerry was not always home. He was always being sent on assignments in faraway places. The good thing about that was that Clare was not going to keep up with him most times. The downside of it was that when the time came for his coming home, the man would stay up to eight months. Eight months of not moving a muscle was too exhausting for her. She had to put up with him every single day.

He would step outside for walks, sometimes long walks with his camera and he would capture hundreds of images. Then he would use his computer for an eternity. He was never in the way, but Clare felt as if he was always in the way. It was hard to miss Jerry because he was always announcing his presence. If he was not talking to himself, he was screaming on his gaming headphones or cheering for a football team.

The only time he was in the way was when he invited his friends over for some good times. Clare’s mother had learned to find things to do during those times. Not that she had a problem with it. She did not. She was the only one who seemed to understand Jerry and she would at times even make pancakes for his friends. She was always working hard to please Jerry who did not need much to be pleased.

Then they would go to bed at night and fuck until the morning light. Clare would fume and moan in the dark because not even covering herself with a pillow would help. She, at times, wondered what kind of stamina the man had because he would keep at it all night. And in the morning, he would wake up all smiley and make breakfast for everyone. Other than making breakfast, Jerry was not allowed to touch anything else in the kitchen. He was a clumsy oaf.
